Introduction on Assignment & Role of the Student

Hello Social Studies Students!

We are about to embark on a journey that is sure to be fun, exciting, and most of all educational.

The purpose of this blog is to inform you along the way as we embark on researching a topic, formulating arguments on said topic, and constructing an in-class debate. This space is dedicated to your questions as well as to inform you of your duties each week.

Please bookmark this page in your browser.

Now, let me introduce the assignment we will be working on for the next three weeks.

You will participate in a debate with your classmates. However, there are many steps before you will be placed on a team and start to formulate arguments. Here is a brief summary of the events as well as what is expected of you.

Debate Topic: Should Social Media be Used in the Workplace?

  1. You will research the curation on the Scoop.it page. This page is dedicated to showing you the elements of a proper debate and what your role is as the student.
  2. Next, you will be asked to bookmark resources that are 'For' and 'Against' a particular topic using a Diigo group. You will not be placed on teams at this point. You will be pooling your resources as a class and this will be the stepping stone for the next phase.
  3. You will then be placed in teams by the facilitator (that's me). You will be asked to participate in a Wikispace. You will be directed to a page where you must post a well organized argument and will comment on other arguments along the way.
  4. Finally, your team will come up with 5 of your strongest arguments and we will have a live debate in class. You will only be allowed to use the primary arguments posted on your Wikispace.
  5. Remember to visit this teacher blog to receive weekly instructions.
Please go to the Scoop.it link http://www.scoop.it/t/social-media-and-the-workplace. Once we have discussed these resources in class.  I will post the next step on this blog.

Again, post any questions you may have on this blog.
